Property tax
The Town of Cary's property tax rate is 36.75 cents per $100 of value for tax year 2026, up from 34 cents in 2025, and it is charged on top of the county rate.
For investors: Wake County puts the town levy on the same bill as its own, and its chart lists a $30 yearly town vehicle fee for cars located in Cary. Run holding costs on the 2026 town rate, because a seller's 2025 bill was figured at 34 cents.

Cary reaches into Wake, Chatham and Durham counties; for 2026-27 the county rate is 53.71 cents in Wake, 60 cents in Chatham and 57.92 cents in Durham per $100.
For investors: Chatham and Durham last reappraised in 2025 and plan the next in 2029, while Wake resets in 2027, so two Cary houses a few miles apart can face different tax rates and reassessment timing. Confirm the county on the parcel record before comparing bills.
Cary parcels in Wake County carry values from the January 1, 2024 revaluation; new values take effect January 1, 2027, owners start receiving notices by January 22, and two-year cycles follow.
For investors: Wake's chart shows its previous revaluations in 2020 and 2024, so Cary owners will see values reset more often from 2027 on. Appeals go to the Board of Equalization and Review, with a planned filing deadline of April 30, 2027.
